About Employee Engagement Ambassadors

Employee Engagement Survey (EES) in 2018

In 2018, we commissioned AON Hewitt to conduct the EES survey. The overall SMU response rate was 84% when the survey ended on 14 Aug 2018.

While HRFA facilitates the preparation and administration of the EES, the results and follow-up actions are owned by the individual line managers (i.e. HODs/HOCs). Line managers are responsible for crafting and implementing action plans to mitigate gaps found in the EES, and ensuring continuous communication to the staff in their respective departments/schools/ ICLIs on the post-EES follow-up actions.

Each staff also has a role to play by providing feedback, participate and support the follow-up action plans. A corps of volunteer Employee Engagement Ambassadors (EEAs) was recruited from staff across the University to help co-ordinate and execute these plans. The EEA scheme empowers staff, promotes involvement and provides recognition for staff members’ contributions.

Employee Engagement Ambassadors

An Employee Engagement Ambassador (EEA) is defined as a staff member who is:

  • An internal advocate
  • Invested in SMU's success and those of SMU colleagues
  • Passionate about making a difference to the lives of fellow colleagues
  • Has ideas and willing to drive organisational improvements based on feedback from employees.

EEAs aim to:

  • Improve participation in engagement surveys and initiatives.
  • Help in gathering insights and feedback at the local level and from the frontlines.
  • Help managers and leaders interpret, communicate, and act on survey findings.
  • Lead initiatives or campaigns to promote engagement, our responsibilities, why it is important, and how to influence it.
  • Lead or participate in engagement efforts at the organizational level, e.g. EE Sub-committees.
