What is Employee Engagement?

You are an engaged employee when you feel valued and find work fulfilling. It is when you make an emotional commitment to SMU and go the extra mile to achieve organisational goals.

As an engaged employee, you  can make the difference between SMU being a mediocre or a high-performing organisation. Understanding and acting on employee engagement is critical to boosting employee performance as well as SMU’s performance as an educational institution.

In its unrelenting quest to achieve high employee engagement levels within the University, SMU conducts the Employee Engagement Survey (EES) at regular intervals, and a cross-section of SMU management comes together with other members of staff to follow up on the findings of these surveys.

After EES 2018, SMU adopted a fresh approach to addressing the issues surfaced in the survey, by involving and empowering the staff of SMU to be part of the change process. This led to the genesis of the Employee Engagement Ambassadors.
