What originally attracted you to the Singapore Management University?

I was drawn to SMU because of its alluring contradictions. Bustling, yet tranquil. Rigorous, yet progressive. Deeply technical, yet broadly relevant.

What is the best part of your job?

That I feel I am always growing and learning. There is a spirit of dynamism all around. Knowledge progresses. Students grow. The whole place moves forward.

What is it about Singapore that delights you?

Things just work. That way, I can focus on life and work. Occasionally, when I begin to take things for granted, an oversea trip would quickly help me to appreciate anew the wonderful simplicity and efficiency of life in Singapore.

Tell us about your favourite place on campus and why.

It is easily the Concourse. It truly comes alive all through the year with student activities. You can feel the pulse of the place there. Beats of percussion. Rhythms of dance. Clashing kendo strikes. And so on. I always feel energized after a walk across the Concourse.

How has SMU enriched your life?

SMU is where I truly discover my calling and vocation. To teach and to research, and to do them in a way that I see best. It is one of the things that give my life meaning. I look forward to coming to work every day, and that is more than I can ask for.

What would you say to someone considering applying to the Singapore Management University?

Don't walk. Run!
